If you didn't pay rent for 8 months and have not heard from your landlord I would say you are very lucky Your rights as a tenant might have been violated because of the dangerous conditions in your building ,but you should have or start documenting the incidents.Call police, go the the housing department, and send certified letters to the landlord .
