I also get the sense that they want to treat their unit as a home and stay established there (i.e. kids are going to school).

You can find other oceanfront condo complexes in North Myrtle or Surfside City that are not "condotels" that might be worth exploring, but you will still have the HOA to deal with.

We require kids to be immunized to be in public school. 

Trick is, we want our kids to stay in the same school, which we could do by buying my in laws home, which they have been wanting to sell and downsize for some time now.

We do have kids and I have two older school aged kids.

He is interested in selling it to one of his kids for $80k-100k and I believe it was appraised somewhere in the mid 300k.
