I know that a lot of this information is publicly available, but when I go to a place like the Census Bureau website, I don't even know where to start, it's so huge.I would be surprised if there aren't a few online tools that aggregate this kind of data?

We do remote check in and ask the cleaner to send pics every time.We don’t make 2-4x the rental rate and are actually strongly considering what we want to do going forward. we’re reevaluating after the next busy season to see if we’re making enough to justify the work we’re doing, albeit minor.

As for tenants potentially taking advantage of the rental laws and you wanting to make sure you "get your rent"....I would advise you to strongly consider putting tenants in the property that have a Section 8 Voucher IF you vet them properly.
