We were stationed in the UK for a large part of our investing career and recently relocated back to the States. 

However, I want to make sure you are also considering using your VA loan to purchase a primary residence or small multi-family at your next duty station (with the intent to turn it into a rental when you PCS again/move out/decide to house hack).

My son is currently stationed there.

Depending on where you are stationed and the market there, it can be challenging (not impossible) to find properties that make a good investment.
