Do I have an option or an alternative to a granite countertop for a kitchen island ?

I do live about 30 minutes from the  Rhode Island line, so I am wondering if it would be a good idea if, as a new investor, I spent some time researching Rhode Island markets. 

I have been doing some research for financing options of a duplex on Long Island.

I agree with the comments above that the passive route offers more security, less risk, and consistent monthly income.

I have been going consistently for the past 3 weeks to get to know the neighborhoods , but I 've seen so many vacant houses that it caught my attention , especially on the north and west areas ( low income would be  the spectrum of  my investments )
