Just a block up the street I've talked with 3 guys that are paying $2,500 for a 5 bedroom home that is similar. $500 a room seems to be a fair, going rate for the area.Most of the homes were built in the 1800s, but this one was built in 2002.Just three blocks away major projects are happening.

It would be pretty difficult to rent out the nicest house on the whole block and expect a renter to happily pay the extra just to have those features.

A similar renovated home up the block (on the same street) sold for $133K after less than 2 months on the market this past May.

(This home had 3 master baths on the ground floor & 2 upstairs).The cast iron drain pipe literally collapsed as my friend worked on the fittings & it fell through the pipe race into the basement.So all the plumbing was then replaced with Pex & PVC sewer pipe for about $2500+sweat equity.So be prepared for surprises.

Unfortunately I can't give you any advice on NYC itself, but I can tell you that a lot of the work in REI has to do with spreadsheets and formulas.I woud imagine NYC REI is going to require a strong knowledge of different neighborhoods, one block will be vastly different than the next.
