Travel isn't too bad, at worst you're looking at something like a 500 dollar flight same day.... with proper planning and little bit of luck you can get it down to half that, often.

Worst case (assuming project completion), buyers can still sell later if they decide not to live there.

Remember, you want to buy the worst house in the best neighborhood and fix it up forcing equity, not the best house in the worst neighborhood and drag the rest of the community with you.
