It is not a true multifamily as some units are traditional 1 bedrooms but some are more like hostel or hotel rooms.

The law specifically states:"Sleeping units or dwelling units in I and R-1 occupancies and R-2 college dormitories, hotel, and DSHS licensed boarding home and residential treatment facility occupancies which do not themselves contain a fuel-burning appliance or a fuelburning fireplace, or have an attached garage, need not be provided with carbon monoxide alarms, provided that (a) The sleeping unit or dwelling unit is not adjacent to any room which contains a fuel-burning appliance, a fuel-burning fireplace, or an attached garage; and (b) the sleeping unit or dwelling unit is not connected by duct work or ventilation shafts with a supply or return register in the same room to any room containing a fuel-burning appliance, a fuel-burning fireplace, or an attached garage; and (c) The building is provided with a common area carbon monoxide detection system."

I feel as if this is not the case but want to double check.Yes you can deduct the plane flight and even few days of food expenses and or hotel/rental car cost if any.I pay no state income tax where I live, but the property I purchased is located in a state which has income tax - I assume I will need to file with that state.I believe you will have to file with that state.

I define them as people I would welcome into my own home; people staying in my STR's are travelers - this helps me keep things in perspective 8)Travelers will treat your STR's like any other hotel and will ignore many of your rules 9)Treat it like a business, not a hobby 10)Your cleaners are your lifeline, find ones you can trust, pay them well, and they will help you enough to replace a management company.It has been good, lucrative and outperformed any other investment.

Sometimes the tenants ask to be put in a hotel, sometimes they ask for a partial rent credit, at the very least you have angry tenants living in your home.
