I have a decent amount in savings, but I would like to build additional investment capital before I purchase my first single family home.  

I was in love with micro lending until the account hit 5 digits and I started to get nervous, so I opened a Prosper account to build that and when that hit 5 figures I started saving for my first rental. 

To be honest, I am currently in the saving / researching phase right now.  

Im ok with online, theres just a lot to pick from.

As we prep and save, we are here to learn all we can about the Boston, North Shore MA and national markets (also interested in NC markets).

How serious are you about online marketing? 

I am looking to rent a place, it seems nice except three thingsthey are ranch style apartments. they have a gate in front of the main entrance, and you're responsible for the door if anything happens to it. for some reason they won't fix it. it actually looks like this but a wooden door in front of the main doorif i take the door down, how concerned should I be about people stealing stuff. if i had a lawn mower or something, they would have to come in the opening and take stuffi saw a report online about some guy that was looking in someones windows at the complex across the street. i dont know how long ago it was. i was looking online again but coudlnt find it. the one im staying at seems fine, how concerned should I be able the ones across from me?

Hi, just wondering what type of properties two recent college grads, with about 40K in saved money can invest in (in terms of rental/student housing), in order to start acquiring properties while also working at our full time jobs.
