I think he's good; the issues lie in the fact I've never lived in the USA as an adult.

I don't think you could get to fraud - the lender won't underwrite your loan when you explain where that deposit came from.Unless you lie, then it's an easy answer

My next concern lies in where to find these investors (on Bigger Pockets and other places) and how do I go about building a relationship with them so that they know I'm trustworthy? 

It's always going to come down to the specific desirability of any property for its area and the makeup of the city/area it lies in, so a specific answer to your question relies on a lot of variables that come with knowing the area well. 

I would be lying if I said my excitement isn't coming with some nerves.The property is a duplex in Kansas City, MO.
