@Caleb Heimsoth Good Morning My wife's parents are allowing us to stay there to save money so we can get a good start at whatever we want to do plus they are not rushing us. so I thought why not invest in something that can help us out, even more, when we decide to leave.

I am trying to stay positive but wanted to share my experience to this point on how a renovation project can spiral out of control quickly especially when you are dealing with a seriously run down property.  

I prefer to stay on the residential loan side.

Just curious so I can stay away from them as well.

Staying out of the high crime and some of the extreme high end areas is our goal, supply is low right now, but plenty of deals to be made especially for those that are house hacking, or have skills such as rehab experience.

I have run the numbers in the Calculator it looks like it will pay for itself if it is rented an average of 3 weekends a month (minimum 2 night stay.)Thanks,Adam

If there other income is 30K from SSI, it seems that they would stay in the 12% tax bracket top of about 77K.
