Trying to get a good start in real estate

Hello Everyone

My name is Shawn and I hope to one day become real estate investor here in Atlanta an also hoping to get some help and guidance along the way. I’ve been following Bigger pockets for about a year and there is so much information going around I feel like am drinking water from a firehose. But from all of that  I do know that buy and hold is the direction I want to go in for the long-term

I work full time and would like to continue working while investing, credit is not a problem for me so am sure I can secure a loan but money down is what I am working on for my very first rental. My wife and I both live with her parents so I don’t have a mortgage of my own to pay so that gives me a little freedom to look at different options out there.

My question is should I start with duplexes or single family’s and should I stick to one form of rentals or should I have a mix of both also how much should I spend for my first rental? I’m super nerves about this but commit as well. Financial freedom is of course always the goal and I am sure if done right the money will come my focus is wanting to build a legacy for my family !!!! this is not a get rich quick thing for me my ultimate goal is I don’t want anyone in my family to have to worry about paying a medical bill or any other bill for that matter.

I am open to any and all words of wisdom so please any help is GREATLY appreciated thank you all in advance
