The house was renovated a bit in 2012 (nothing too fancy), including a new roof, has window unit a/c, gas heat, and includes lake rights to a chain of lakes (although its not right on the water).

If they were totally rehabbed, there could be things failing that you don't see (i.e. hot water heater, air conditioning unit, roof, etc.).

Not sure where you'll be doing your research but here are things you'll likely need access to...Land records ... to determine ownership, open mortgages, other encumbrancesCourt records ... for judgments, pending litigation, BKTax records ... real property taxes are liensLocal violations, liens, water may factor as wellAnd you often don't just click a few buttons and get results... usually you have to review docs and piece things togetherGood luck.

January 1 - I checked my invoice provided by the apartment (as I did the previous 11 months) and THEY had prorated my rent and water bill to January 15 rather than for the entire month at which point It seemed clear that they agreed with me moving out "early".
