Today he is totally against big government just as you expressed, even though his business is highly regulated now and I remind him that government is actually keeping his competition away (and then he smiles).So, I might suggest,if you really have ill feelings about government, rules, regulations and laws, that you select another line of work and not go into real estate as it is highly regulated, and for good reasons.

I am concerned about an exit strategy but by investing in cheaper markets I think my downside risk is somewhat limited and even if I sell near what I bought it for 7-10 years later, I am still making a healthy profit.

If a family on foodstamps can only afford to eat boiled rice with margerine, their kids are not going to be as healthy as mine, who eats baked boneless skinless chicken breast, steamed vegetable, and a nice green salad with fresh fruit for desert.

Many areas of the Midwest are totally flat when it comes to appreciation, so it is nice to get the lower "Midwest" purchase prices, but still see healthy appreciation.
