If you have a solid, qualified contractor who will do that for you... then yes, tell the owner you need your contractor to walk it.

However, I'm wondering what percentage of my time do I actually have to spend living in the house to qualify for owner occupied financing? 

I'm debating on getting a qualified GC or hiring subcontractors for each major job, rebuilding floor, roof, ac, plumbing, ect.
