There is no damage to the rafter, just the ceiling in the garage.

The only thing I hunt for is the phantom leaks in ceilings under 2nd floor bathrooms.   

As a general rule of thumb, ceilings can be painted with flat as they get almost no use or dirt (an exception may be a ceiling vent, but even then dust sucks right up with a vacuum).Flat paint is cheaper than any other finish.

The basement has 12' of ceiling height at the back and slopes up to about 5' near the front of the house.

But since it's on the ceiling too (wtf?)

-baseboard heating doesn't work well in a huge poorly insulated house with 9 ft ceilings.

Done some "custom" sheetrock work, bullnose corners, coffered ceiling in den, "archway" between den and dining/kitchen.

A door needs replaced, the whole interior needs painted: some is normal use, some is not.Some of the popcorn ceiling is really dirty, so will get painted, too.

This house has an upstairs bath that flooded and collapsed the downstairs laundry room ceiling.

Kinda cool, kinda, if you like narrow rooms and low ceilings.
