Be especially careful if the investments are in areas where there is economic decline - parts of the Midwest.I'd think the opposite.  

If the property doesn't meet the VA standards, then you won't be able to use VA and will have to pivot to a much less advantageous loan product like a commercial, etc. 

our second has come to us the night before with a concern though asking if we can "guarantee" the unit is "properly" cleaned with "appropriately strong products".

Real estate also doesn't typically decline in a recession.
