You tube has a bunch of videos on how to check/replace breakers, but again, this is dangerous as the panel is most likely going to be hot when you do the swap.

She now resides in a condo and it's less of a strain for her but letting a home go to foreclosure when it's avoidable isn't an option I agree with?

Our ultimate goal is to relinquish our ties to the house, one way or another, whether that ultimately be through foreclosure, or through some more preferable scenario.I've already come to grips with the hit on my credit / potential hit to assets - it's just more important to get out from under the strain / burden of the situation and move on at this point, than anything else.  

The strain of doing tasks you do not like is a big strain.

Outdated electrical panelI like the house I’m just not sure if it’s worth it with these kind of needed repairs.

Personally I think it's a terrible idea to try to manage your parents' finances IF thats' going to lead to a lot of strain in the relationship.

Roof needs some work around flashing to prevent leaks, a few windows need panes replaced, etc. 

I have vynil siding which I will replace, and the current panel is attached over it.
