There's just too much that an untrained eye can miss, not to mention a good inspector has certain tools they use to help identify issues, like a foundation level meter, water moisture meter, etc.In my mind, having your contractor(s) walk through with you is still technically an inspection.

The neighborhood is houses that were built in the 1950's but they decided to build a street of houses in the 1990's within the neighborhood so when looking around it really throws comps off to the untrained eye such as myself.
