In my STRs, I have a little store at one property with eggs, honey, soaps, etc and that has done extremely well.

After the initial set up, I go to my STR before the busy season to take inventory of linens and consumables like soap etc, replace or repair linens or small items, touch up paint, and get my eyes on the property to make sure everything is in good repair. 

So be careful as a newbie not to get suckered into losing too much money that way either.Enough soap boxing on my part!
