Water heaters in parallel or series should be fine, but then you have to maintain two heaters (yearly drainage), they will take up space, too.

Sadly the last tenant destroyed the place (ripped out baseboards, cut squares out of the hardwood, put holes in the drywall, holes in the ceiling,destroyed a small shed in the back yard) and I will now be rehabbing it, full over, in the next month.

I like to stick with condos because I feel they are a little safer from major issues, they cost less and don't have to worry about landscape/drainage/yard issues.
