I am dealing with a bit of nervousness to reply on the fly to the initial phone call (not normally a nervous person and love to chat), as well as being at work (no service) at some times during the day doesn't help either.

I's say start going to REIA meetings and chatting things up with guys doing deals is where to start.Good luck! 

And if you get a bad vibe from the get go you don't need to stay long and chat.
