They are teens, so this move would only be until they graduate from High school.

Rates were in the high teens in the 80s. 5% isn't awful by any means.

I think the only way to balance out real estate values will be to have rates in the middle-teens range, like in the early 80s, which would push us back into a global recession which no politician would accept.  

With my kiddos, a pre-teen and teenager, I put my kids into situations where the conversation about money comes into play, they observe how I ask questions and I allow the kids to talk directly with pros if they have questions.

Meanwhile the heir should get someone to occupy or rent the house as squatters and teens (who party) like to prey upon vacant properties.
