If you want to pursue this, I would suggest doing some investigation as to how many other folks this person may have scammed.

Just like these folks post on BP  hey I don't know anything about NPN I would like to partner with someone.. they are relying on that someone to run the show.. let me tell you I had a 4 hour grilling over this with a state financial investigator who was one sharp attorney.. and with my attorney we argued back and forth up and down.. but it does not matter.. the remedy is to take it to law court for 100k and see who is right the regulator or my attorney..

So expensive we are investigating other states.

Again that was part of an exploitation investigation where the cg got ct to sign a new Will leaving everything to her and cutting out the kids.What's funny here is the heirs could be scammers like you said selling what they don't own, or the "investor" is the one foreclosing to grab all the equity, or no one is and it's all just a legit pile of blah. 

If you can get in and thoroughly investigate and inspect the house you can plan better.

I would never invest in CA or IL), I've come up with these as my primary markets to investigate.

Also if talking to a lawyer is the way to go I will investigate further.
