They could move to a low cost state, even buy a tiny house, read Tim Ferris books on traveling for pennies on the dollar and value experiences over stuff.  

A mortgage lender had told me I could use HELOC funds as a down payment on a mortgage, so I was like ok, and went ahead and got the tiny HELOC.

Since 500 is going to be your quantity this time, I would suggest to go that route.

@Craig Moore you are on the right track with the quantity you are looking to mail. 1,000 is a good start, though if the budget allows 2,000 would be even better.

Unless it's TINY or in bad disrepair, I could bump it up but I'd need to see it first.But you both have pointed me in a direction.

But most do flinch with a long 'DD' period backed by tiny EM consideration.
