They are usually installed in the ceiling in a central hallway, or you can buy one that installs behind the window, and you close the window in front of it when not in use.You open the windows an inch or two, and then the whole house fans draws air from outside into the house and then blows it out either through the attic or the window.I bought one for my house a couple of years ago.
