So im assuming the auction will be just like a regular foreclosure auction in which its the same thing as throwing a piece meat to rabid dogs, they will bid it up much higher than the amount of back taxes due.

First if you have a loving spouse that can support you then by all means jump into bird dogging for someone and explain to then that you have all this time and willing to do the leg work to bring them some deals.
