So the journey begins.The end-goal (kinda): My wife and I want to purchase a 5 to 10 acre piece of land to do two things.  1. to run a ranch that rescues animals (dogs and horses mainly), and 2. to partner with orphanages and foster programs to bring kids to the ranch to connect with the animals.  

I'm a Realtor by trade and making the transition over to Investing (Buy & Holds) to get out of the daily Rate Race.

In Nov (10th & 11th), he has a week-end Rat-race to Retirement. 

Some ideas that have just popped up in my head might be horse stabling or garage/covered storage/workshop space possibly?

I know people who have done this only to find that the pissed-off homeowners (at the bank) last horrah was to destroy the house including pouring cement down drains, stealing stives, cutting up the trusses/joists with a power saw, stealing the copper from the electrical, dumping horse crap in the house, etc.

Or,   there has got to be more than one of these "we buy horses" organizations around to associate with.   

Its easy enough to do for a specific property and only costs a few hundred bucks.You are asking a cart before the horse type question though.

We aren't running the rat race.

Just looked at the photos and I would have a pretty long list of repairs, fix ups, concerns (pages and pages and pages).I love horse racing, but this one looks like a long shot for the novice, apprentice property jockey...I would think you have some stakes level tenant and property issues to handle right out of the gate (I can see potential mold, maybe lead paint, vinyl asbestos tile, habitability issues, lots of remodeling etc.)....
