We were told that keeping a pre-approval active would help in our hunt (it didn't) and that checking around for a better rate occasionally wouldn't hurt (it did).

I appreciate the story of the hunt and the brief "chase" with getting the bank to release their mortgage.If been to Akron (very briefly) one May and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the town and seeing some of the places historically important to me (Mayfair Hotel, etc.).

Agents do put rentals in MLS because it costs them (almost) nothing but unless it's a high end executive rental, you will generally find that a great chunk of renters hunt for houses themselves, and renters + MLS can't mix due to how MLS'es are setup to operate.
