Initially, my thought was the same - buying a 4 unit. 

@Andrew KwiatkowskiI've thought about Fairmont and Clarksburg/Bridgeport, however as long as I have a full time job I'm not interested in looking that far away.  20 mins to Fairmont and 45 mins to C-burg/B-port doesn't sound that far away, but the inconvenience factor has steered me away.If I ever do this full time, I would absolutely look in that direction. 

As someone who is currently house hacking their second house, that is where my thoughts lie.

Good Evening BP Members, I am trying to help out a home owner in a stressful situation and was wondering if there was any advice/thoughts on a buy and hold investor in the Houston area for this situation: Owner has a squatter in the home who refuses to leave.
