I would (and do) invest in stocks through a 401k, IRA etc because those are tax deferred which is an advantage.

Please note that the account into which the funds are deposited must be the same type of account from which the funds were first withdrawn (e.g. withdrawal of pre-tax funds from a 401k could be deposited in a pre-tax IRA but not a Roth IRA - "like to like").

I currently contribute to a 403B (kindof like a 401K but for NPOs and contributions are fixed), through my employer and use a Roth IRA for additional retirement investing. my question is if I opened a traditional IRA so that my contributions were coming out pre-tax along with the 403B, would that push me back down into the 12% tax bracket because that money is no longer considered income or am I stuck paying 22% no matter what?

@Ankit KhatriI'm not suggesting you do this, but I funded my first real estate purchases by refinancing my home, borrowing against a life insurance policy, and taking the principal out of my Roth IRA.
