If you want a future rental, I would either consider and small multi with high rent to purchase, or going for a lower cost SFR.If you are sure you want to rehab and hope to add a significant amount of equity into the house, I would look into the "live-in flip" strategy of buying a house that needs work, completing the rehab(possibly with a 203k loan) and either enjoying a nice house you got for a bargain or selling it tax free after living there for at least 2 years.

Me and my wife are moving to Greensboro, NC for 12-24 months since i have got a job there in engineering.Honestly i agree that this is a bit weird to ask about this here, but i have listened to sooo many BP episodes that I have gotten the feeling that everyone is friendly and helpful here in the forums :)From basic googling we have found apartmentlist.com and other sites pretty soon directing us to apartment complexes for rent.
