Trying to figure out the “real” cost of installing a new central AC unit and replace existing old furnace.This is in San Jose, CAHome is 1600 sq ft - 2 story Got quotes that range from 8.5k to 15kI guess the need is a 3.5 ton compressor and a 2 stage energy efficient furnace.

Might be more worthwhile to negotiate a MUCH lower price on the property instead to account for cost of repairs.2) Assuming somehow issue #1 is resolved and FHA clears the purchase: I am new to the area, and am not sure what the costs will come out to, but my hope is <$5-6k initially as I start my investment mostly replacing windows and painting (I’m told always to expect to pay more).

That being said, I generally over-rehab and replace anything remotely questionable so I don't have to deal with it later and empty out EVERYTHING not nailed down, which includes the attics and basements, which has worked well for us.
