6-panel white looks just fine in colonials, modern colonials and post-modern designs.On the other hand, if you're doing a bungalow, cottage, arts and crafts, or something like that I'd have to say... let your wild child loose and get 1-panel doors, 2-panel, 5-panel... or anything BUT 6-panel and stain them if you have the budget for the extra labor.
