For households with young children who spill drinks (red dye is the worst) and use indelible ink markers with the carpet as their canvas, the carpets may need to be re-dyed instead of replaced.  

It became very obvious that some owners were either unable or unwilling to spend on anything but basic type furniture and repairs.  

Have you own opinions and rules, but don't spread misinformation.As for the claws, the cat typically is going to claw up their furniture...and yeah, maybe your carpet.
