The properties usually come with a home and termite inspection from the seller so that does take a portion of the risk of the unknown out of it.

Right now I am in the research phase but my intention is to take my portion (well my Dad's) which may fall between 4-8 acres of land, and figure out what would be best.

If you are in your early forties, thirties, or twenties, I think you are nuts to put a decent portion of your wealth in the stock market (Certainly at all time highs).
