The camera/spotlight purchase was probably an emotional decision (because they have kids), but the odds of them staying are not likely especially since they are renting and it's easy to move.  

Tenants make very emotional claims in court and try to get the judge to feel bad for them.

One more tip – people remember stories that trigger their emotions.

Just look at the numbers and don't let your emotions hold you back.
