I’m from Ohio and the Great Lakes REIA would definitely be worth going to.

I used to live down that area (South of the River) and started my real estate investing "career" in 2010 by buying single family houses in Prior Lake, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Rosemount lol.

Our lake house is 3 bedroom 3 bath with a kids bunkroom.

My wife works in Brookfield and I work at the Naval Base at Great Lakes.

I also like the areas around Woodlawn Lake and Los Angeles Heights, but it's harder to find deals around those areas (though not impossible). 

I thought that's what Portlandians thought about Lake Oswego!!!

Better school districts command significantly higher prices and along the northern lake shore 7 figures are normal.

I really enjoy walking/hiking near Millerton or in Bass lake, I find myself to think more creatively in those settings.

Also, I recommend placing it on zillow for rent; it won't cost you anything and the audience is far larger and mainstream than craigslist (which still scares some folks).Don't lower your price further...change your marketing approach from quiet and cozy - to  stunning Dean Lake access home, with garage and large lot for enjoying the great out-and-indoors.  

Some cities for the rental property would be anywhere in Salt Lake County like Draper, Riverton, Lehi, American Fork, Lindon, Alpine, Highland, West Jordan, Sandy, Herriman, Bluffdale.
