Read as much as you can here and in books.

Read the forums, read books (maybe a suggestion is The Millionaire Real Estate Investor by Gary Keller) and set a strong foundation for yourself.

Being new I took the time to get educated on the subject by the teaching of a few mentors, tons of bigger pockets youtube videos and a few good books I picked up along the way.

@Pete Budagher- listening to the podcasts is a great way to be exposed to different ways of investing in real estate, and can help you notice which strategy/niche you gravitate to.For example, after listening to many podcasts, reading a lot of books, I noticed that multi-family investing was my 'thing' and I now spend a lot of time on that (networking, learning, etc.).

I recently finished reading the book on "Investing in Real Estate with No (and low) Money Down" by Brandon Turner and it turned me into a believer; and its only one book of the seven I purchased!

The main takeaway I have gained after reflecting on last summer is that 1) chasing money alone will not work in this business, and 2) that it cannot be done alone, instantly just like that, just after reading a few books or taking an online course.  

Our venture into real estate honestly probably all started with the iconic “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” which led to other books, which led to google questions about real estate, which quickly brought me to BP.
