You would be client a disservice if you didn't apply it and do as you are supposed to.

My understanding is this means you can rent it out while you live there but when you move out you are not supposed to rent it out as two separate units.

Sure.The bottom line, I suppose, is that many times there are some elements of truth in a projected pro-forma, some elements of truth in a T-12, and your job is to figure out what your "relative" truth is for the property.   

I did something incredibly stupid that I wouldn't suggest for anyone, and as far as all I've read here, is NOT what you're supposed to do.
