I live in a high rise condo just beside King George skytrain station which I bought in 2013 with the help of my parents.

So to start off I moved here about a year ago, I'm originally from the Indianapolis area, I joined the military out of high school and was stationed in WA state for 4 years.

We both were active duty, and started out by buying owner occupied houses at duty stations. 

When I got stationed here I bought a 3 bed 2 bath house that was a fixer upper.

or bit the bullet, buy and then fix as I can using the funds from my paycheck and the savings I would have due to a lower mortgage payment then rental costs.

You have to watch as not all property is a good deal (common land in a development, old gas stations, swamp land) and you could end up with a property that you get stuck with (why the original owners probably stopped paying taxes....

I hope to be in the area in the next few months to see what is out there and what kind of pricing.I used to live there back in the early 90's when I was stationed at Eglin.
