I understand townhomes won't appreciate as much as a single family home but our hope is to pay off principal along the way, start getting more cashflow and eventually pay off both properties. 

I understand appreciation can be lucrative as well.

After you have a general understanding of the REI in the Columbus market and you know what interest you and or maybe some long term goals.

You've got to really, really, really understand the zoning for each county and mind the fire insurance hazard premiums.

But you'll learn a lot by calling around and it will help you understand what you need to do to "fit in their box" in the future.
