J Martin organizes a great one for the East Bay, though the meetings are usually in SF.

Here in Pittsburgh there is a community organization that is "policing" student rental properties and reporting landlords to the City zoning officials. 

All retail centers are  B-/C level properties, VERY high traffic intersections, and low income areas. 

You'll be able to find these brokers by searching for brokers having this designation on the respective website of each organization.

After about 45 minutes in traffic and another 40 minutes sweating in the 110 degree heat in phx while my husband and I unloaded 16 bags of quickrete, I decided that it was worth the $75 i'd have spent on delivery.

I would definitely be interested in hearing more about the meet up you're organizing in September.

I really like that they have their listings visible and well-organized on their website, as not all turnkey providers do unfortunately.
