The big pluses right now are time and government incentives.

The socialists are now in control of the government and they don't look kindly at an evil predatory lender (YOU) that forecloses on a victimized buyer.

As did our own government back in the 40's when Japanese soldiers did it to captured American soldiers.That didn't change until 2002...

And by government I mean the federal government.

The government should discourage shipping of jobs abroad by inducing severe tax penalties for companies that do that.The government cannot expect CEO's of major companies to think "patriotically" by keeping jobs in the U.S. if it will have a negative effect on their bottom line.

Both companies were established by the U.S. government -- FNMA in the 1930s to provide mortgage services and SLMA in the 1970s to provide education loans.Neither are currently owned by the government (they were spun off as independent corporations), and the companies have no relationship to one another.

So, in addition to the obvious problem of having education run by a government bureaucracy, we also have a problem of a society that views seemingly unpleasant tasks (like math) as things to be avoided.
