It is just not that attractive to people with enough money and patience to have their house build.See it this way.

Looking at buying a house, I sometimes see a place thats somewhat attractive, but a little small, and that also shows in the tenants bedrooms.

The demographic is definitely getting younger and attracting more talent in the work force.

Either fortunately or unfortunately, those markets also tend to be 1. high-priced and 2. attractive to younger residents.

Don’t just invest because the price is attractive.

Where as being in close proximity to summer/winter attractions can effect occupancy short term. 

@sam no not necessarily and depending on the level the lease addresses this also depends on whether or not this is a multi-unit. 1) No in front yard; Yes in backyard ---- Reason: Unsightly and Blight and will eventually off put neighbors and will affect your value and next Tenant pool. 2) Same as #1 with another item of consideration; meat will attract vermin such as you mentioned it, flies but also others like rats, racoons, and other kinds.
