You can remove the guts of the current fan/ get a new fan cover for the old box and then install an inline fan like a Soler & Palau TD100 or TD100x up in the attic if its accessible.

What you will commonly see here is a new panel installed and then all the receptacles replaced with GFCI outlets as a way to get around the fact the house has old 2-wire.

One more idea, you could use a Home Depot "project loan" to get up to 25k of your materials and some of the labor for things they install for 6 months with no payments or interest until after the 6 months.
