One of the difficulties of this operation would be that I don't live nearby, so I wouldn't be able to slowly pickup the pieces...then again, I suppose I should be reluctant to do this at all if I don't have team members with boots on the ground yet that I can trust with oddball tasks like picking stuff up from Craigslist.

Either you gave them crap materials (eg, your financial house is a mess, like giving a painter crummy paint), or they suck (you provided top notch materials/paint, and STILL got shoddy workmanship out of it), or some combination thereof.What due diligence did you do when you hired that person?

Because he's older and over qualified for the initial work he'd be doing, while he'd start as a regular employee, over time I'd want to give him a significant piece of the business so he'd be engaged and be a true 'partner' with me in helping me grow what I'm doing.
