I don't know your area *super* well but my impression is that there aren't major tourist destinations that will attract a huge stream of visitors.

Lots of negative news headlines recently - "14 people reported killed in 36 hours in Cancun near tourist destinations". 

Louisiana is rich in natural resources, Baton Rouge is the state capital and home of LSU, New Orleans is a huge tourist/convention city, and the people of Louisiana for the most part are tough and truly love their state! 

It brings outside tourists in and contributes on that front of the local economy.A local side of it is that a lot of units and properties are being taken off the market from long term residents. 

We just don’t love the crazy amount of tourists so we’re not sure we would use it a ton ourselves (which is very important to us). 

Tourists do come year round, but it helps to have a couple of other sources for renters.

@Francesca CiaudanoFrom what you’ve mentioned, I understand that you’d want to buy a property and rent it short term to tourists.

Thanks so much.In high tourist areas it would kill alot of tourism so I can't imagine in The Destin, Fla area they would do that. 

I only leased the property for 6 months because the short summers here are the tourist season and I figured it much more difficult to find AirBNBers travelling here in the winter months.

This is still a tale of two cities, the one catering to the tourist and the other which the tourist doesn't see where poverty, inequality and gangs still reign and let's not sugarcoat it there is still a lot of narco money floating around.
