I am giving you a very vague overview here but multiple key points. 

The podcasts are more specific in topic than books and when you first start out you want more of a broad overview so you can decide what you want to look more into.

Knowledge is power, so why not put myself in a position to leverage strictly based off comprehension in the field.  

So research and read your Comprehensive plan for your respective area of interest.

If you're looking for books to read you may want to consider either one that provides an overview of the different types of investing (the beginner's guide here on BP isn't bad for a quick overview) or several books to expose yourself to the various options out there.

Are there any comprehensive investment programs or companies that offer umbrella services for investors that others would recommend?

We have developed a comprehensive solution to the issue, and our first step is to acquire the only existing 5-star bed and breakfast in the area, which is currently for sale.
