And just generally for hiking. boating, fishing, biking and mountain town kinda stuff.If you were to drive to the old Town Square right now, it would be packed with tourists.

Surrounding areas of Boone like Banner Elk, Seven Devils, and Blowing Rock make great vacation areas and are frequented by tourists, including many in state.

There are STRs available, and it's a very hot tourist market.

sorry, it is a holiday in Colombia, but I try to contribute with some information  to your questionWhile you may be able to buy real estate in Colombia with just a tourist visa, getting a loan or mortgage to finance a purchase is another matter.

There are plenty of cheap hotels, just don't stay in the 'tourist' areas!

I do have rental/investment properties in NYC/Buffalo, but wanted to expand into STR and i think Orlando/Kissimmee would be ideal due to it being a tourist hot spot attraction.

Fredericksburg is roughly 30 min away and is a huge tourist hot spot.  

My experience with airbnb is that it can be hit and miss, if there is an event in town or more busy tourist time.
